i resently purchased a slighty rusted k98 i would like to keep it from rusting and stop the rust what can i do to stop this rust ?? any ideas or threads that have info on this i will post pictures later so you get an idea of the issue with it !!

thanks for getting back but i am a little confused what your saying what should i do to stop the spread of the rust other then oil !! and use 000 steal wool to remove a little rust ?? the blade is actually not bad except what is shown in the one image and is the freshest rust on the whole and is only thoose few spots !! any bodys advice or ideas would be great espically if somebody has tried it before and had succes because i thier are a lot of rusted one like this out thier !!

Each to their own of course but for a combat bayo in that condition I'd clean it up with Pre-Lim then coat it head to toe with Renaissance Wax and call it a day. I'm also a fan of storing edged weapons outside their scabbards.

You are correct, if the owner desires to remove that heavy rust he will require more than Pre-Lim..
I base my suggestion on the belief that the heavy rust has stabilized. I simply wouldn't go to the extent of trying to take it off. I think it will do more harm than good to try. That's why I suggest just giving it a light clean and sealing it up.
