    painted vs anodized

Can someone answer a quick question about SS dagers with maker mark, non RZM's? Should the scabbard be anodized or painted or does it matter? What is the general rule about this. I have one a friend wants to sell, it is a herder, but a black paint. I'm not sure what is right. Thanks for any help or advice you may give.

      SS Dagger Scabbards

M33 SS Daggers with a trademark only blade came from the factory with a blued finish. SOME were painted after the initial wear by the SS owner when the finish was faded or damaged, but this finish was not factory applied.
On the M36 SS Daggers, just the opposite was true. Initial production with nickel fittings was painted. Later, with plated fittings, the finish was blued.
