Since i have little to no knowledge of US blade,

Im guessing it's a parts knife, Based on the blade.

        Bob,
We (especially me) are here to learn what we can. Why do you think this expensive blade is a rebuilt from parts blade. This item sure has alot of bidders. Please tell me what your thought are on this strange bird. Thanks!

          I can't give a logical reason.
Why waste a bowie blade on a bayonet??

            ONE GRAND

The rare bowie blade is now over a thousand dollars! The handle has a few German appearances as far as bayonets go. I've never seen a US bayonet over $50 bucks. This must really be something to have, lots of bidders, lots of money. I read the info from the seller I was just wondering if someone here knew more. Hmm hmm mmm over a grand for this.

This is one of the rarest US bayonets known as the Krag Bowie. Very few bayonets were made.

                Thanks

Thanks Jareth and WELCOME to the forum. I looked closer to the photos and seems to be very well made. Many people are watching this item. I bet there will be some serious sniping at the finish.

                Should be interesting.

Jared is correct - Experimental M-1900 Krag. BTW, there are lots of US bayos that go for over $50!

Panzer, you are most likely correct on US bayonets being over $50. Here is one I've never heard or seen before going for a grand. In my area of the world the common ones are all we see. Fort Hood is just up the road and we have Texas National guard stations all along the border and they constantly replace stuff. US bayonets are easy to buy less than $50.

TO PUT THE KRAG BOWIE INTO TERMS THE THIRD REICH EDGED WEAPONS COMMUNTITY CAN RELATE TO. THE KRAG/JORGENSEN(AND I THINK ITS A 1898 MODEL, BUT I COULD BE WRONG) CAN BE EQUALED TO THE LUFTWAFFE MACHETTE. AS FAR AS HOW RARE IT IS AND HOW MANY WERE PRODUCED VS. HOW MANY STILL SURVIVE. AND YEAH ITS A LOOKER. AMAZING HOW WE GERMAN COLLECTORS MY NOT BAT AN EYE AT A PIECE FOR 2K BUT PUT A ODD AND RARE PIECE LIKE THIS OUT FOR THE GOING PRICE AND WE ARE SHOCKED. CHECK OUT WHAT THE 05' 16" UN-MOLESTED GARANDS ARE GOING FOR NOW. THAT SHOCKS ME!!! I DONT EVEN TAKE MY U.S. STUFF TO SHOWS TO SELL ANYMORE. TRY TO FIND A NICE EXAMPLE OF A SAWBACK BUTCHER FOR LESS THAN 200$ OR EVEN A GOOD TROWEL BAYO. THE BEST DEAL ON THE MARKET NOW (IN MY OPINION) ARE NICE JAP BAYOS AND NICE MATCHING (LETTER CODED)K98'S. MANY CAN BE HAD AT LESS THAN A 100$ AND ARE IN NEAR MINT TO MINT CONDITION.

                        You're right, Bret, it's the M-1898 Bowie.

Janzen does not give a production figure for it, but he does state that the rarest Krag bayo is the M-98 Bolo, with only six made.
