    Hammesfahr SS Dagger for Review

Would appreciate some comments on this dagger before I put it on the estand. The dagger came from an antique dealer, pretty sure it is all original. But I bought the scabbard separately from a military dealer, not sure if it is good. The dagger has some issues, nicks on handle, blade has some spots and looks like it was repointed. Would appreciate any advice on pricing as well.
    Thanks,
    Fred

Eagle and ss button. Should eagle be recessed in grip more?

pommel nut - looks plated, crossguards I think are early nickel silver type.

That's all pics for now, if you need to see anything else, just ask. The paint on the scabbard looks pretty new, and screws seem sloppy, but I'm not a dagger guy...
                      Would appreciate your advice, thanks!

Severe condition issues, re-tipped blade, re-painted scabbard, steel wool cleaned crossguard, improper fitting scabbard screws........other than that, some period parts.

                          JR is right.
If you want a nice SS, visit his site. He has a couple and he knows what he is talking about. You won't get taken.

I agree with JR's critique of this piece -- an old-fashioned parts dagger if there ever was one -- but Fred is intending to put this piece up on the estand and he is asking for advice on what a fair asking price should be. Given it's great latitude of history, how much could Fred expect to get for this piece from a potential buyer, with all it foibles known? I have nothing to add regarding prices, not being a dealer, but there must be some solid opinions out there.

                            Cheers,

                            Br. James

I've been offered my share of parts daggers and 'restored' pieces at ridiculous prices..3-4k
I think the value should be based more so on the parts and their condition rather than a whole dagger
