    K98 Bayonet with White Grips?

Just picked up this nice P. Weyersberg 1939 dated non matching serial # bayonet. The plastic grips have been painted white and probably won't be hard to remove BUT I thought I would check and see if there was any chance this was period done. What gave me pause was the grips were removed to paint which is not impossible but not something your normal kid would do mucking around with dad's war trophy. Only thing I could think of was possibly field police for visibility? Paint does not glow (thought it might be same paint used on gorgets) but no. Probably nothing but just thought I would check. Thanks!

Thats a new one! Funny thing is that the paint has stayed on so well too. I've got it!...snow camo! How about honor guard, to match with the white leater they used?? Kevin.

Could have just been done by a veteran as they commonly did things like this

I would leave it as it is. It is a great conversation piece and you never know if a period photo will show up with a white gripped bayonet. Once removed, it is impossible to restore back to white grips.

Thanks for the help, I have come across a number of items where it is hard to tell who did what when. This seems to be one of them,

It doesnt look like a winter camo paint, so probably a postwar rough painting, no problem probably remove it, the dark grips are correct on piece, but You could remains as it is. The blade looks too like painted with no colour laque.
