Is this SA worth buying? Airborne vet

I am wondering if this SA is worth buying? The son of the vet is asking 500.00 for it. I told him it was not worth that price. Here is the deal though, the father was an airborne guy, I have not seen his photo yet but the son says he has his uniform and hat and it has the glider patch on it. He says he might let the uniform go. So I was wondering if making an offer for both for 500.00 would be a good deal? I dont know what airborne jackets and hats go for.

Blade is gray, spotted and has sharpening marks. If I could get the uniform, what would this dagger realistically bring?

SMF is rare maker for an SA, but it is to bad that it is in this condition. But if you can get all for 500 you would be doing very good.

Shame about the blade, the rest of the dagger isn't bad.. in this market and economy this is a $350 dagger, give or take in my opinion. Dont know much about the uniform values..good luck. Kevin.

$350.00 Max or apply the $350.00 toward a better one.

                  Hi Dan,

It appears to be an original M-33 from the early order series produced by the Solinger Metallwaren-Fabrik for SA Gruppe Westfalen. The blade has been abused and the initials carved into the grip would only make it more personal for the person who carved the initials...the net results for the collecting community is a further abused piece -- IMO. For any potential buyer, the question is always "Will I be happy with this piece in my collection?" If you cannot now answer that question in the affirmative -- regardless of whatever may influence your mind in the future -- then, as Dr. Dolch prescribed, you should probably "apply the $350.00 toward a better one!"

As to the US airborne jacket and cap, I have neither experience nor interest in that realm of collecting. Hope these thoughts are helpful,

                  Br. James

Too much for the dagger and it is a common "scam" to tell you there is more coming if you buy it. But to be safe, ask to see the jacket and figure out what exactly it is. If the rest is true it might be worth following up on.
                    Good Luck!

                      Jacket & Hat

If "right", the jacket could be worth a lot more than that dagger. Just about every time I've been told "there is more" (meaning if you buy this I'll let you buy the other stuff)... It hardly every happens.

                      Good luck,

I agree with Skip. Same experience here. The seller probably knows the dagger isn't worth CLOSE to $500 in that condition and is simply trying to get you to pull the trigger. Considering the blade condition on this one alone, I would pass on it for $150 (IMO).

Also consider this... If he's wanting way more than the dagger is truly worth in the condition it's in, I would assume that if you do follow through with the sale, and he decides to sell the Airborne stuff, he's going to want your first born child! There are Airborne items to be found online from reputable sellers. I'd take the advice of the others and save your money for another opportunity.

                          pass

i told the guy i was going to pass but if there was a uniform maybe we could work something out. He said he would bring it in.
