I was able to look into SS-Untersturmführer Paul Weyer in the National Archives. He only had a SS Officer File which just contained his führerstammkarte that is attached. I did not find his NSDAP membership file card. The amount of information available on him is more atypical for a SS Mann who was an early member and turns up in the 1936, 1937, and 1938 SS-Dienstalterlistes. Unfortunately there were no photos of him.

For more information about these records, you may have interest in an English version of my "Introduction to Researching Numbered SS Daggers" first published in 2010 in Ralf Siegert's Die Dienstdolche der Schutzstaffel SS. The PDF file can be downloaded at:

    http://www.ssdaggers.com/ResearchingSSDaggers.pdf

I hope you find it useful.

    Enjoy!

Wow, that's it? Pretty anti-climactic Are these documents even worth paying for (that's a question for everyone, not just Ross)? There doesn't appear to be any real useful data in his Officer File that hasn't already been noted here, but if having his 2-page file with the dagger increases it's worth, then I may go ahead and get them anyway.

      Thoughts?

A different way to look at is; Consider yourself lucky you got a name and rank w/ a couple of pages, as many others get nothing.
I one time had a numbered full SS Rohm and got nothing.

You got a 'partial' and it's a 'hit', for me that would be a Home Run, anything else is gravy. However that being said, that's two collectors looking at it from a difference perspective and perhaps different experiences.

Amount of information available on a SS Mann, when one can be identified, varies and is always worth checking. This is especially important when considering the purchase of an unresearched SS dagger where you only have a name/ SS membership no. and possibly SS-Dienstalterlistes entries. I have had numerous cases where the name/SS membership number turn up on a document and that is all that is available on that individual on this side of the pond. But the dagger's original owner is still identified which, in my opinion, steps the dagger up from the more than 400 numbered but unidentifiable SS daggers I have documented. It has also been my experience that identified partial-ground SS Röhms are actually rarer than identifiable unground SS Röhms.

          Enjoy!

Thanks for the detailed reply Ross!

Wagner, that's a great alternative perspective. Thanks for helping me see the brighter side
