Rare! Government Official dagger by Carl Eickhorn

This Government Official dagger belongs to a friend of mine. It was found in the Netherlands many years ago. Expert opinions over this magnificent dagger are most welcome.

Thanks for your comments guys! What do you dagger connoisseurs believe to be the true story behind the Carl Eickhorn Government daggers: Were they only meant to be daggers for the government or for both government AND diplomats, as it was produced in one version only by this firm?

Diplomats wore both type daggers, You can see a photo of Von Ribbontop wearing a GO Eickhorn dagger.

            1. The "diplo" Alcoso daggers are a much rarer variation supposedly only used by diplomats or higher ranking officials.

            2. Alcoso diplo daggers are much higher quality than the standard Alcoso GO daggers. As they used a bass base metal, the castings are of much higher quality and the eagle swaz are a little larger. Much more defined.

3.Eickhorn GO daggers are the best in regards to quality, finish, fit IMO. These examples are MUCH rarer than the standard Alcoso GO dagger, about a 30-1 ratio. There is a higher $$$/ collector premium too.

            4. Alcoso Diplo are the rarest variation in regards to numbers produced.

            5. Eickhorn shows a Diplo dagger in their catalog but never produced an example. The catalog even calls it a diplo dagger.

All are very cool and one of the top TR must have daggers!

              Eric:

A very good and very accurate summary of the ACS/Eickhorn choices for collectors.

The only thing to add to this is that Eickhorn is the only producer of the RMBO diplomatic dagger.. for Eastern Provinces and is the Eickhorn GO as above with gold coloured plating.

Ah yes, forgot about the Ultra Rare RMBO example, they are very cool. Not sure how they compare in rarity of the Diplo daggers?

Thanks for all contributions to this thread! A few questions more: There have previously been some Puma Government daggers for sale amongst the professional traders, were these made from parts from Alcoso and/or Eickhorn? Are there even other known producers of Government daggers than those mentioned in the thread so far?

                  Cincerely,

                  Loke

Puma did make GO daggers, I believe they uses Alcoso castings. They are super rare but so is the collector IMO

Tom Johnson's vol VIII, page 256; shows an Alcoso sales invoice dated 26. Juni 1940 recording the sale to WKC of, ten "Diplomaten Dolche No 1502 f. Beamte" @15.50 RM ea.
Page 268 of the same reference shows a later Alcoso sales invoice to WKC dated 14. Mar. 1942 for a further, ten "Diplomaten Dolche fur Beamte No 1502", also priced at 15.50 RM ea.
Doubtless there were other sales by Alcoso to WKC and perhaps other waffenfabriken, who may or may not have added their own TM.
As a collector, I am happy with the no TM mark blades on GO/Diplo dirks provided they 100% meet with the accepted criteria and detail of Alcoso factory build.

Ok So I just inspected a REAL Puma GO dagger....

Puma made their own scabbards, as they are very distinct slightly fatter and the tip is more defined. Also used a green felt buffer pad. BUT I believe Puma used Alcoso pommel and crossguards. These are SUPER RARE!

                          It was a great education.......
