    Factory Ground Rohm

Here's another great SA that came in with a pair of caps. It's probably the nicest ground Rohm job that I have seen. There is nearly no sign that there was anything on the back of the blade, including the now missing maker mark. I had to look really hard to see any evidence of the grind. The hilt also is clear of any group marks.

    Hi Jim,

I don't recall ever seeing an SA 'ground Röhm' without the Group Mark stamped to the reverse of the lower crossguard. There would seemingly be no reason for removing that mark from the crossguard...if it were there in the first place. For myself, I would not accept this piece as a "Factory Ground Röhm." Just my opinion, of course.

Maybe the group stamp is "Ho" and not centerd on the crossguard, but on one side. Sometimes these Hochland group stamps are hardly legible. Maybe a close-up would help.

If there's no group stamp at all, I agree, that this would be strange.

          Very nice,

I have seen Rohms w/o the gau markings. IMO they were given out as gifts, prizes etc therefore no need for the district marks. JMO

Thanks for the additional comments guys. Here are some more shots. In the hilt pictures please note that the crossgraining looks finer on the reverse than on the obverse. I also added some other pictures to show the unmolested nut, eagle, and roundel.

Still strange that the group stamp is missing, but what I can see on the photos I like it

It's strange, but seems to me a original one. I think there is another question to be answered here, is it a factory Ground Rohm or it never had a MM etched on blade?

                    Regards,

                    Ricardo

Ground Roehm's w/out the Gau mrk were supposedly daggers that were awarded privately as gifts or for special actions. I have an Eickhorn -early mark w/out the Gau mark. I also owned an SS Ground Roehm that was an early Eickhorn that had been completely factory ground uncluding the marker's mark and then was refinished w/the logo as well as the stripping(can't remember what this is called) to the blade. This dagger is pictured in Johnson's book.
