Renwax on Dress Bayonets - Application Repeat Frequency?

    Hey guys,

it has been some time since I last posted. My collection has not grown much, but I want to make sure it is preserved to the best of my abilities. I store it in a cabinet and have applied Ren-Wax to all of my blades, which I keep out of the scabbards at all times (applies to my HJ knives, dress bayonets).

My question is this: How often should I re-apply Ren-Wax?

    Thanks for the suggestions

I usually try to do a reappliation once a year, but I think that if the blades aren't being handled then every couple of years would do.

If kept in a cabinet and not subjected to frequent handling or other contact then the coating will last almost indefinitely. Because I do periodically handle some coated items of mine I do a yearly application just because it's an easy frequency to remember. Two years would be fine also if the items were not handled. Just make sure that the cabinet and contents are kept dry.

I agree with both the responses posted above. One additional thing I do is keep the polishing rag handy that I use to buff my collectibles when applying additional wax . It's impregnated with wax so I'll oftentimes use it to just "wipedown" my pieces as they are handled. I've been doing this for years and never had a problem.

          Thanks

Thanks guys, appreciate your feedback. I do not handle my pieces often. When I do, I use thin gloves to prevent any contact with the skin. I will reapply Ren-Wax to my pieces which I have had for years now, just to make sure. I store them in a dry cabinet which has glass with a UV protective film as well. I guess there is not much more that I need to do.

Sounds like a good set-up to me and I should have mentioned that I wear clean white cotton gloves just to be on the safe side when handling my items. Jim's idea of having the rag handy is a good one too.
