            ps:

John do you know if this kind of bayonet could be used with the K98 Karabiner?

            thanks again

              it should

I have a German made WWI butcher bayonet that was used for a K98. And it also fits snugly on my Yugo Mauser too. So i would think why not vice versa or versa vice.

This is a very good site for bayo's out the norm, or just to browse. Recommended.

Thanks for that link--seems to be a good reference as a cross section of the world's bayonets.

                      bayonet

I agree that the bayonet might fit a German K98k but is not "proper" for it in it's configuration. The press stud locking mechanism is missing from the pommel so the bayonet will not lock onto the rifle anyway. Several foreign bayonets such as the Yugo M1924,Czech VZ24,Polish M24 will fit the German rifles. During WW2, the Germans reissued all of these types but usually removed the muzzlerings and blued them. One reason that the muzzlerings were removed is because the inside diameter or the rings varied and sometimes they would not fit over the end of the K98k barrel. The Germans solved the problem by just cutting them off. That way they would be interchangable between the rifles. The muzzle ring could prevent your Yugo bayonet from going on the K98k. Try it and see.

                        Hello,

this bayonet, a yugoslawian M 1924, were used in huge quantities in german military formation.

The german name is Seitengewehr 109(j).

Many (NOT ALL) were modified by removing the muzzle ring, overall bluing and fixing a screw at the side of the scabbard. After an order in 1943 many were shorted by the Germans to the length of a S84/98.

This one is in the original finish.

The resent for the removing of the muzzle ring you can find in the german orders. The bayonet without muzzle ring can be fixed together with a barrel cap.
