Dress Bayonet ???

All,

Am hoping someone can point me in the right direction with regards to what this is. I'm assuming it is some sort of dress bayonet. It is marked RICH.ABR.Herder – Soligen with 4 pointed star TM. Seems to have a nickel plated hilt which has some pitting, and has a red felt insert, the locking catch works perfectly. It has a leather buffer pad and the grips which are really nice looking are not cracked. Blade is near mint conditionw with no pitting or rust. The scabbard has approx 90% of its original finish with no dents but some surface rust presumably where the frog has been.

As daggers / edged militaria is not my thing, does anyone know exactly what it is and roughly how much it is worth ? Am looking to move it on, but prior to eStand would like to know exactly what it is.

Thank you, why do you think that is the case, the patina seems consistent, but as stated these are not my "thing".

Does anyone know exactly what it is ?

I do not see anything that would indicate the grips were replaced. IMO it's a standard WW2 era German dress bayonet (they come with bone handles, like yours, and also with black plastic handles). The bone handle versions are rarer and I would put the value in the $115 to $160 range (depending on condition).

I think I see what Reibert is talking about, the obverse rivets look offset & not evenly spaced. Other than that, the shape & fit of the grip plates looks OK to me. Very nice toning on the obverse grip plate.

Typical stag gripped Herder. Its good and I have seen stag grips by this maker before just the same.

There´re also carved, wooden grip plates, imitating staghorn.
IMO they´re less common than Extra-Seitengewehre, showing staghorn grip plates.
