The scabbard does not look ok to me. Crossguards were plated but the scabbard seems to be from another material and it doesnt match with the dagger crossguards. The dagger itself looks like it was assemble with different parts of other daggers. The grip doesnt seem to fit into the crossguards properly.

The crossguards have been polished and lost most of their silver finish but as you can see on the top it was the same as the scabberd

Here are two more photo's. Maybe it helps.
It does not look like it was put together, everything fits very well and is in good condition, no damages or signs of tools. the only thing is that the finish of the crossguards has been polished off, I will try to make a better picture.

Then the scabbard looks like it was new plated and the same person wanted to plate crossguards too so thats why they were polished? I am only assuming what can be the cause of the mismatching scabbard and crossguards regarding plating.

I don't think it has een newly plated. I think the reason why the plating on the cross guards has been gone off has more to do with the material difference.

Tool marks dont lie, and although you feel slighted by the honest comments objectively posted by those ahead of me ,and i feel those comments were correct and well spoken , its clear the top nut has been removed by the "nimrod"(check the circular goudges, and rounded out facest of the top nut) . This IS clearly a parts dagger, it does NOT fit well, has been messed with, scabbard appears repainted , and blade as stated has been linierly polished.

On a 1 to ten scale I give it a 3.5. It is obvious by the defensive comments you have felt slighted, but it isn't like that at all, but you likely got stuck with this one by not waiting before having it checked out ,and also may have overpaid for what you got.

I'd say 250. USD is max for what this one is worth , and that is a generous assessment for what you have after all the poor parting work this one has had defile it.

Daggers speak for themselves , and collectors must not be so hot to just buy before checking daggers out if less experienced, but rather collectors should only buy by condition,(unless real cheap) and at prices that accurately reflect the value correctly for the daggers honest merits . Being left as found doesn't always mean it couldnt have been an atwood put together parts dagger as the demand even early after the war was big for daggers, and they were in short supply....so do not be offended, and always try and get photos to show good shots of condition prior to diving in, state asking prices , and don't buy till it has been assessed if you have no sense about what is koser and what has been tuned as some say , but There is no need to apologise for honesty. Daggers at least are more easily assessed than even medals and badges are , and If it were me , and you have more than that in this beater ,i'd take this one back, and get a refund ASAP..Best wait for one worth waiting for , and you will not regret buying the nicer example from the start , as you will this type when you can never get your money back after paying so much to someone who is obviously taking advantage of your ignorance for personal gain. It's time to pass on this kind of mish mash , and leave the dealers who sell this kinda bunk get stuck with these kinds of inventory, and just avoid those who sell this kind of crapola if the price is higher than what I said for this ones condition. That way you show you are smarter than the crooks, and then just avoid those dealers all together and stick with the ones that know what they are selling is correctly graded for the price.

                      Hello juoneen,

I do appreciate you taking the time to comment but I do not agree with your statements. As mentioned in my first post I knew it was polished but that has nothing to do with it making a parts dagger. The scabberd has not been repainted, and it shows the expected age patina and wear.

About the dealer story, the dagger does not come from a dealer or alike. I bought it from private people in Germany. That does not mean a piece can not been messed with.
In my opinion the dagger has been polished to make it look better, the plating on the cross guards has been gone off because it's a different base material then the scabberd.

                      Regards Jim
