Hello

Late war commercial bayonet made by Alex Coppel. There is no WaA and serial number because this kind of bayonet was issued to other troops in arms other then the army. Certainly for the police. The frog is german and it is a late war "bread bag" frog. This rig is correct.

There were no type bayonet like commercially - police.
Or commercial, or police bayonet.

Seems to be a werhmacht middle/late war frog with commercial bayonet ....
Seems that this kind of complete rig was issued to the army.

This bayonet frog (or its parts are manufactured in Bulgaria), the Germans used them because of lack of materials.

There has been a lot of discussion from a German collector frog (Stefan) regarding this frog and its identification as German-made. Carters book does that imply that the identification is open to discussion. The round hole is atypical of German blades but typical of many Eastern European-made Frogs. There is no photographic evidence of their use by German troops and they are most often found on commercial or VZ24 84/98 's, although at least one is reported as coming on an army blade picked up in Normandy.

I am therefore identifying this aa frog used by a German Ally in WWII, probably Eastern Europe, until further clarification of its origin is forthcoming.

Part of the claim is accurate.

Good "mid-war"/later 'commercial' bayonet and a good "bread bag" frog. With a number years ago in discussions France being one of the places where the combination turned up in the hands of French veterans, with the great bulk of them from U.S. veterans. And virtually none in the UK, or reported from at least some areas of Eastern Europe. That said, they almost invariably seemed to have many times new or near new "mid-war commercial" bayonets from one of the five makers who produced them. I've also never seen a Vz 24 bayonet in a "bread bag" frog, but have seen the Vz 24 bayonets in imitations (or ersatz types) of German frogs from different East Bloc countries.

With the only place where we see the French and the Americans together and the UK not present - in Southern Germany after the Rhine river crossings in the last stages of the war. So some bread bag collector or collectors are going to have to put in their input as to the source of the materials used to make them - which using France and the U.S as guideposts, seems to place Southern Germany (Munich area?) as a possible location for the frog/bayonet combinations originating.
