    Fake F.W. Holler Dagger

    Hello, All -

I realize that almost anythig TR-related has been reproduced, but I was wondering if anyone had any specific knowledge as to whether or not there are fake F.W. Holler marked daggers floating about?

    Any assistance is appreciated!

Yep, there are definitely fake Holler 2nd pattern lufts about.

The easy to spot ones are marked Berlin as opposed to Solingen.

The fakes marked Solingen have poor definition to the graduations in the thermometer and/or the incorrect number of grads.

    Cheers,
    David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

Fred Stephens references post-war Holler trademarks in the first edition of Reproduction? Recognition!, which was published in 1976, so they've been suspect for almost thirty years now.

As Don notes, just about everything has been faked by now.

I have come accross Holler fake 1st patern Lufts. As previously stated, thermometer grades are of very poor definition. Also, in the fake 1st pattern, scabbard leather was a very light blue vs. the dark blue Morrocan leather. Scabbard fitting screws were bad. Overall, the fake Holler 1st patterns are very easy to identify. Fake Hollers are not always marked Berlin, sometimes you'll see them Solinger marked.

                    Thanks, Guys -

The army dagger is marked "Berlin". Saved my $20 on membership dues right there! I may still buy it as an example if the price is right.
