What is the value today for an sg42 in excellant condition with the bakelite grips? I know that this would be subjective but a price range or knowledge of recent transactions would be helpful.

Subject to correction by brother collectors more versed in this particular bayonet, I'd say between collector to collector in the $4K range & from a dealer in the $5K range. I saw a dealer sell one 6 months ago for roughly $5K, 1 or 2 on Eban in the last 6 months sold for less than $4K but the condition wasn't the best (from memory). There were plenty made by Eickhorn for use in Africa so make sure if you're looking for one that it's pre-1945. Post-1945 would be worth about $2K IMHO. -

Thanks for the information. I have one now. I wanted to get a reality check on current values. I paid $1800 about eight years ago. That was from another collector who was also a friend. He gave me right of first refusal.
