    SA Kaufmann & Sohne

Hi Guys, picked this up yesterday, has some issues, the vet removed the scabbards fittings, appilied laquear, then tried putting the screws back in, broke one, lost one, and got two half way in
But the maker, seems like a rare one?
    Still not bad looking
    What you think?
    Regards,
    Gary

Thanks Del, would it be better to leave it as is?....since the vet did this?

If the scabbard fitting won't fall off then leave it as is, but if they will fall off and or its an easy fix to replace the screws then I'd probably do so just so I was happy that it would stay in one piece and be "complete".

Thanks Tony, the fittings do not move at all, he may have stripped the threads and only go in half way?
It has been this way since the end of the war...so leave it i guess
            Regards,
            Gary

I agree, I'd leave it if all is well. If the GI did it then its a genuine part of its history

Are you positive the veteran did the laquer job? Sometimes the factory did use laquer on the handles and we know it was used on scabbards all the time.I would leave it as is just to be safe. I might run a tap thru the threaded holes just to put the screws back in. ( The right size of course)
