I have a very nice Kriegsmarine dagger sans the release button. I have a very nice release button for a Kriegsmarine dagger. I have NO idea how to install it.
It appears that there is still a part of the original button there. You must remove the pommel, handle, and cross guard. Remove the left over piece that is there and put the new one in. The button slides in from the bottom of the cross guard.
