    Kriegsmarine 2nd Pattern WKC - WTH ?

Gentlemen, i was able to purchase this WKC last week from my "picker" buddy who I'm sure was able to bundle it with other items.

At first glance, i realized it was in "worn" condition, but, the pommel looked "funny" and it looked like it was cross threaded on.

After trying to loosen it up, ~~with no luck~~
(( I used some penetrating oil over nite to get it loosened. ))

    Here is the reason why

WTH ? ...... Why is this tang "bent" under the grip ? especially with no damage to grip or the eagle.

Thanks for all replies and observations.

I have had a few daggers with bent tangs like this, I think they just became bent after being sat on in duffle bags and situations like that! Be careful (very slowly and with extreme care! Don't want a broken tang!!), use some pliers with leather or the like to keep the jaws off the metal (not cloth, it's not tough enough!) and you can bend it back straight. I don't think the tang's on these were hardened like the blade was... Kevin.

No i wasn't sweating bullets. I have a few tricks when i straighten out blades and the likes. Actually this time i used 2 pieces of wood block in a vice at work, then lined up the bent area and gave a single tab with hammer to wood buffer and after 2 or 3 taps, this is the result.

Thanks for everyones input and comments.
