Blade looks like it has been re-tipped. Also appears that the grip was re-finished.

Yes it appears the dagger has been played with and I would price it accordingly.

IMO the grip is not the original one and it most likely has been replaced. How do I know? Aesculap is known to have very tight fits of handle and crossguard. Usually the fit is glove like with no gaps inbetween. And this one doesn´t look correct to me.

The blade looks like being polished. Most of the crossgrain is gone. The blade needs to be measured to see if it has been retipped.

This dagger has some issues. Sorry to say that.

Aesculap grips are very typical and easy to recognize by their shape and dark varnish finishing coat. Grip on this dagger looks totally different, however it's possible it is an original Aesculap grip that has been heavy played with (lots of sand paper has been used, I guess), it doesn't make the overall impression much better anyway. Blade looks retipped, scabbard shell is repainted. The dagger still has some value, but you can't expect big money for it. Sorry.
