Picked up a great Early SS Dagger yesterday. Its made by Gottlieb Hammesfahr. It has 99% of the crossgraining on the blade. It also came with the vertical hanger. The fittings are awesome(No peeling or pitting. The back side of the grip is numbered 233722 and the Roman Numeral III is on the guard. My first and probly last SS dagger.

Congrats a lot-
I think the SS rune insert are little low . It is possibly some rework around it in that area ?
I have a textbook Hammesfahr and the SS rune is not the same and its higher up. My Hamm are the second model etch.
Here are mine .

If you study you see the differance.
Im agree with Jr . The crossguards are polished.
I have never seen SS number on the wooden grip .
Regards LH
your dagger is shown the "2nd" motto pattern.
if you compare both daggers you'll see a difference.

question on the SS runes button. i notice both are quite different. on one the runes dont touch the inner circle, on the other each rune touches and looks to be part of the inner circle. how many different ones are there, and how many different ones would one maker use? as in this case, same maker, different runes. just curious.
