    Need ID on Sword

Can some one tell me what country and period this sword is from? Returned by a WW2 veteran from Germany, I can't find it in my references.

Ron, That could be a tough one to find as I don't think that it is in any of the references that I know about. That said, the quality of the workmanship (of the lack of) and some of the features remind me of some mid or earlier 20th century Italian swords. With the arms looking a little bit strange (and the image posted is also not as sharply focused as I normally like to see to make out small details). But still close enough I think to be the House of Savoy. Which is associated with the (former) King of Italy, and is probably where I would start looking myself.

PS: I may have a reference example of a (high quality) different model sword from about 100 years earlier that has an etched blade. But at the moment it's put away until I can get to it. Regards, FP

        Sword

FP you could be right. IT is crude in engraving and manufacture, so Italian just might fit the piece. Actually, the scabbard is made far better than the blade or hilt. Thanks.

This is a WW2 period Italian P.I.A. (N.African/Lybian Police) officer's sword- I have it's twin brother.....scarce but very under-appreciated!. Mine has a lt. blue wool tassels, but is missing the "drag" on the sheath.
