Can This Kopling Army Dagger Be Saved??

Hello everyone,

A friend gave me this dagger today because he didn't have time to put in to restoring it. I know that H. Kopling is a fairly rare maker, and I would like to restore this dagger to it's original splendor. It's missing the hanger bands and rings, the handle is badly damaged, the Swastika is broken off, and the tip of the blade has been broken and ameturishly repaired. My question is, are there any dealers that deal in these parts or offer restoration services? Also, are there any reproduction parts out there to be found? I would really like to restore this myself, but I have no idea where to find parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I agree that there isn't much you can do with that and be money ahead.
Is the scabbard damaged? is it the type with the pressed in throat?

The only thing that is still usable is the pommel and the ferrule. You have to find a new grip, crossguard, blade, and possibly the whole scabbard for restoration. My suggestion would be to just keep the good parts and dump the rest.

You could try Colonel Johnson at 540 373 9150. He sells parts for the dagger, but I share opinions already voiced. It will cost a LOT to restore, and you probably won't find the blade marked as you want. I have a spare Army dagger, if interested PM me.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't be restoring the dagger for personal gain, but more to bring it back to life. Really all I want replaced is the handle and the scabbard bands. I will keep the cross guard and blade as they are. It just pains me to see something that my friend's father brought back from Germany fall apart like this. Thanks again for the replies.
