Wow, I should have gone with you! A super find indeed & I'm not a sword guy at all. As has been suggested, a light cleaning of the blade would be the most I would do. Best to keep it clean but leave the fittings untouched.

nothing wrong with cleaning/protecting a blade but leave the fittings alone,nice sword.

Thats what I would do as well. Thats hung on a vets wall since 45 , excellent find! did you do well on it or paid a hefty price?
Any tags in the knot?

I'll leave it as it is, because I take it to the Max show, to trade for same nice Epack dagger or knife.
