    Short Polizei bayonet

    Hello

What are your opinions about this short german police bayonet. It is not a dress bayonet but a standard issue which has been shortenend.
Is it from the period or was it made after war ? What can be the value of such a bayonet ?
The scabbard unit marking matchs the crossguard.

    Regards

    Hi Alain,

The hilt assembly looks correct in terms of rivets & grip eagle but the blade appears way short. This bayonet would likely have had a 13" blade after being cut down from the original 17". I suspect someone cut it down even further, maybe to remove a badly pitted blade. Apparently they reduced the scabbard length as well. Probably not done in the period I'm afraid. Scabbard top fitting is also missing the frog lug.

Looks like an Eickhorn, does the unit marking start with a "P"? Eickhorns usually do.

      Hi Bill

S.Me.I.15 is stamped on both scabbard and crossguard. It is from MERSBURG police.
The blade has been shortened ans the same lenght as a K98 blade.
      Maybe a broken blade ?
      Regards
      Alain
