PSS Police Bayonet Collection

Here are a couple of quick shots of two examples I have obtained over the years. I know these are truly "rare" as I have only seen about 6 for sale in the past 5 or 6 years. (and I look for them!) If you have never held or seen one in person they truly are a treat, massive in size as these have not been cut down like the standard police bayonets. Super quality and hand enhanced details on the hilt. I have placed a Luft-Forestry Bayonet to show the size difference.

Horster TM - hilt detail. Also shot taken from a "Triumph des Willens" dvd of an SS- aisle minder wearing a "tradition" bayo' . PSS form???, but no police badge. Also note the portepee, looks like the so called nco degen knot which is more often seen in wear on SS bayonets. If only Leni Riefenstahl had kept future collectors in mind when filming and provided detailed closeups! Anyway, this shot could be where the possible misinformation comes from attributing the PSS to "SS-Security Units", and not just from the fevered imagination of certain authors and dealers.

Great info and nice PSS! Love this photo, I agree it would appear this is a SS Mann and the SS NCO knot is tied to the PSS bayonet. IMO the PSS bayonets were awarded OR could have been given to a "special unit". Just like the Luftwaffe-forestry bayonet with the stag grips, this proves that custom or "special" bayonets were issued to certain units.

In all my years of collecting, I have only found two examples. The example to the left is a Horster and to the right is a Simpson. You will not the eagles are slightly different between the makers.

My makers are Fichtel & Sachs

The other is Fristersesmann Berlin Part of the stamp was covered up during the replating process and hard to read. Joe W thought it was a this same maker also made sewing machines?

Eric,

The maker you're referring to is Frister & Rossmann, Berlin. They're noted in Fisher's guide as having a connection to JA Henckels, I believe as a "finisher" of Henckels' products. I've seen at least one PSS with both Frister & Rossmann's mark & Henckels' mark & will try to post it when I arrive home. I also have a list somewhere of the PSSs I've observed by makers, there should also be a GD thread somewhere over there on the BCN forum.

I've had several PSSs & will have to look up the makers. The one I've kept all these years is by Gebruder Hartkopf.

Here's a shot of my PSS by Gebruder Hartkopf. This piece came to me out of the Boston area in an indirect vet purchase. That good vet was kind enough to coat the blade in cosmoline. Although it took some work to get it all off, it did it's job & the blade is mint.
