I am a french collector of german bayonets and I buy a lot of them in USA. If you ship in "express airmail" when the parcel arrives in France it is considered by the french post as "chronopost international" and the french customs have the order to check this kind of parcels because if there is insurance there is certainly something important or with high value. Sometimes they don't check but usually they do.
The best way to send a parcel to France is to send it " first class airmail". It is considered as an ordinary parcel and it is not checked by the customs. The only risk is the parcel be lost or stollen and without insurance it is definitively lost.
Before to send your parcel you have to ask to the buyer if he accepts to take the risk or not.
I have received a lot of parcels "first class airmail" and fortunately I got them all. Sometimes there were somes expensive pieces. I was very happy when the parcel was at home !!!

I say screw the customs if you do not send it Global express, which gives you a tracking number you 90% chance of it being "lost" (most likely stolen by the mailman or the recipient) All they have to say is i didn't get it and you're out the money. The Sith overlords at Paypal have a policy that if you have proof you mailed it, proof it went through customs, proof that it made it to their central post office but do NOT have proof he actually received it BINGO they get their money back. I know this and it was $250 lesson.

The most ideal situation is to send it to a friend or relative in the US and let them take the responsibility.

no problem for the package to come in france in 5-10days.
make a tracking package and no problem
i have take with usps and fedex
