Hello I bought this knife last week. The grooves looks to me like hand made. Can't find no markings on the knife maybe there gone by sharpening of the blade. But is this a original german WW1 trench knife?

IMO your knife is an unmarked, private purchased Hugo Köller in a very bad condition.
The grip plates are looking old to me.
The wood looks pretty parched.
Rgd. the "fourth hole" in one of the grip plates:
Do you think somebody tried to stake a rivet, or is it a hole, made by a woodworm ? ...
The lower rivet is sitting pretty low on the grip plates ...
But, it´s always much more easier to say more if you can hold the knife in your own hands, images could lie ...
What do you think about the rivets, "old" or "new" ?
What do you think about the crossguard ?
Is it´s condition similar to the blade ?
Is there a gap between blade and the vent of the crossguard ?
Is the crossguard sittin´ loose ?
What´s the thickness of the crossguard ?
Would you post an image of the crossguard, (plan view !) ?Last edited by Reibert-Austria; 08-05-2011, 08:27 AM.

Trench knife WW1 Original? 2
I think the crossguard is similar to the blade. The only thing that's sitting loose is a part of the grip. The extra hole is i think made by a worm. I try to put a needle in it but it hits the blade. I hope these pics are good enough.Last edited by chillbert; 08-06-2011, 02:24 PM.

If the crossguard is original I don´t think, this knife is a Köller, (maybe a Joh. Leupold, Gefrees/Fichtelgebirge ?).
I do not want to say your knife isn´t an orginial in all of it´s part´s, but,
if I had the choice to buy or not, I´d pass this one due to the condition alone ...
P.S.
#4, image 2: this hole didn´t made by a woodworm ...
