This may seem like a stupid question, but how do you know it's Heissmeyer's dagger?

Is it because his SS number is engraved or stamped on it?

I'm just wondering, as I've seen a lot of SS daggers over the years stamped with serial numbers which mostly seem to relate to well-known personalities.

Doesn't the case for Heissmeyer's Honour Dagger appear in Tom Wittmann's latest book?

                        That was on GD!

Yes his chain is in TW book on pg 200! Mine surfaced from old private collection that JR Meda has been selling.

I know the collector it came from!

Mine is stamped and has owners serial number!

Like most in the book or other books I quess any number or presentation
or engraving on anything is subject to questions!

I am happy and others that have seen it are content as I would imagine
the owners of the daggers in TW or Johnsons book are!

I judged the piece by the dagger alone and condition and then the history!

Like many great items collectors have very few have rock solid DNA!

                          Paul.

                          Thanks.

I was just interested to know if there was any other history behind the dagger.

As you rightly say, very little on the market these days has a solid provenance, and we usually have to take things at 'face value'.

GUYS EVEN if it is rock solid and not to offend anyone still is hard to believe the piece. correct me if i am wrong but wouldnt a general have a fancier ss dagger or did they have the same as others?

Prior to the introduction of the '36 (chained) pattern, all ranks carried the same style dagger. You will occasionally find them with Damascus or etched/presentation blades, etc., but the SS frowned on non-conformity such as any outward embellishments...it is entirely possible that a general would have carried the dagger in question.
