Need opinions on a personlaized Hunting Knife...

    Hi all,

Someone came to me with this Hunting Knife, and I'm curious if $200 is a good deal considering condition. These photos are really bad, but anyone who collects these will probably be able to advise regardless (hopefully).

Since you cannot read the inscription in the photo below, it reads, "Grunes Korpo Minister 1938". Also, the maker is WKC. Measures about 18" outside of scabbard. Also noteworthy are the dark spots on the blade that the owner says are corrosion or dirt (they haven't cleaned it - thankfully!).

    Thoughts??

    Thanks!

This one has seen a lot of water damage, it's a real one that in my opinion is worth $200, for sure no more than that. These shooting patterns are difficult to find and one that is presented during the 3trd Reich period is very rare, just a shame about the condition, bear in mind that if you buy it, it will be a tough sale later on.

Thanks for your input Gary. I'll probably offer the seller even less since my original offer was not based on the most recent detailed photos I posted.

What are your thoughts about cleaning it up a little; removing the green patina, shining up the brass, cleaning the blade as much as possible without compromising the etching? Will that help or hurt the value? I know it is considered taboo to clean a WWII relic, but is this maybe an exception to that rule?

Anyone else have any thoughts on this knife, and whether or not you think this is a good price considering its condition? I really don't collect these, but if I can get it for the right price I may consider selling it down the road.

I would try and purchase dagger for as cheap as possible, due to its present condition.
Like said previously a rarer blade(shooting presentation) and real nice at that.
Problem is though, when dealing in edged weapons the money is in the blade, and yours has real issues due to moisture damage to plating/etching that cannot be reversed.
If you are pondering selling and dont want it anyway, dont bother otherwise it can clean up a bit but blade is damaged no matter.
Leather might soften and can be treated but may already be too stiff and dry.
Its really up to you, but overall it is/was a super piece.
            hope I helped, Ken

Thanks for the info Ken. I'll probably just pass on it altogether then. Sounds like I may just be wasting my money. If it were worth more than my investment of $200, I'd probably buy it, but sounds like this one may be more trouble than its worth, and I should probably spend my money on something with fewer problems.

                Yes, probably so.
If you dont want or need work or have to account for it down the road.
Put good money into good things, like the ss em you posted.

BTW. Inscription says: Grünes Korps, Münster 1938.
