    Imperial german short sword id-help!

Hello folks. A couple of antique shop finds from yesterday that I need help positively id'ing. I'm about 99 percent sure that the brass hilted one is an early / mid 19th century German Faschinenmesser. The hilt and upper scabbard throat have matching regimental numbers of "103. R. 6.115." and there appears to be a deeply struck crown cypher below the scabbard throat markings and the staple. The other sword is a bit more mysterious, having a flat, unfullered and double-edged 21 1/2 inch blade, ribbed wooden grips and simple solid, flat brass "D" type guard. Due to its configuration, I'm of the opinion that it dates to either the late 18th or early 19th century, but could be later. The ONLY marking I can find is a stylized knights head on the ricasso, similar to the old Weyersberg marking. If anyone can positively ID these swords as to model, etc, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!

Here's a close-up of the hilt and scabbard throat markings on the brass hilted one. I believe this might be the 1829 Faschinenmesser, but am still trying to find its exact match...There are NO markings on the spine of the blade, by the way.

The first one looks like a Saxon model 1845 infantry short sword. Unit marked to the 103 rd Infantry Regiment (Saxon 4th). And the other may or may not be a regulation pattern, and will require some more thought/research. FP

Thanks very much! I'll keep on researching the other one, but the Saxon designation is probably right-on. Thx again!

The second short sword with the D guard is a Bavarian Police sword. This model was made with a flat guard while later ones were made with a rounded D guard by WKC. You will also note that the blade is slightly wasp waisted a few inches from the guard.
