    SS Dagger - Gottlieb Hammesfahr

I am don't have much experience in daggers so I would appreciate every information I could get on this dagger.

I think that the scarab could be repainted and I dont know if the crossguards should have any markings on a ss dagger....

and the moden handle don't have a super fit on both sides....

Two of the pictures you've shown, are identical as the dagger in the for sale section

For me the scabbard has been painted later than the 3rd Reich period judging from the photos................... but I certainly could be wrong.

I'm with JR, looks to be a repaint but I'm no expert, but on an early dagger like this, "should" be blued/anodized black with lacquer. Also the fits don't look real nice but it may have had a hard weathered life and shrunk a bit...but i don't like the "large" gaps just for personal taste.

Dagger is original. Scabbard is post war repainted. Gap is caused by the wood shrinkage - nothing we like to see on in our daggers, but some imperfections should be tolerated.

                        Fair price

Good morning, I have this dagger up for sale on stand, could anyone tell me what a fair price for this dagger would be. I have it on stand for $2500

                        Thanks,
                        Larry

I don't believe in something like "fair" or "unfair" prices in a free market. I believe in realistic prices, i.e. prices people are ready to pay for the item. If you'll drop the price every few days, I have no doubts that one day someone will say "I'll take it" and that's going to be the right price. I believe you're getting closer to such point. I see many guys selling on estand are confused with what they see on dealers websites, but price of a dagger offered by a reputable dealer and price of a dagger sold by a collector are two different pair of shoes.
