            Hammesfahr

this kind of motto pattern knocks me out!
            is the grip painted?

The inscription and the motto doesn't match the dagger, imho

            But,wait for other opinions!?

              thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help! Could the inscription on the back been inscribed later? Not at the time when the dagger was made, the numbers almost looks like it was done by hand . I cant say that ive ever seen another one. I believe the handle has some kind of lacquor on it.

I am bringing this one to the top, I would like to know if this is a good dagger. I am not an expert on the SS, so I cannot say nothing about this one.

                  Dagger

I can give you this history on the dagger, it was baught 30 years ago at the wagon wheel flea market here in saint petersburg florida buy a collector and his father, the blade was in need of some work so they cleaned up the blade and i believe they darkened the lettering front and back. A buddy of mine who is still alive saw the dagger in its original stateafter they baught it and he said they cleaned up the blade so it would look nice.

The problem with inscriptions is one can't tell for certain when they were done.I hope someone can.It is a cool dagger. Why would two different styles of the number one be used ?

I believe you. I just never saw SS dagger like this before, so I just wanted to know more about it. I was expecting more of the SS guys to chime in about this one.

It is interesting that this dedication with some variation is on a Hammesfahr blade pictured in
Exploring The Dress Daggers and Swords of the German SS by Thomas T. Wittmann,
Volume 4, page 243. The crossguard shown is stamped III. The 1st Standarte was based in Munich.

I forgot the two number ones are in, the same style as the posted blade.

It is not often seen but is no reason for any concern because sometimes they did it that way.
