Cleaning a 1st model Luftwaffe blade?

Is it possible to clean this blade without damage or is the blade ruined?

I mean does it have a perminent damage or just patina that is removable?

I would guess that a plated blade would be easier to clean compared to a blade that isnt plated like a SA blade?

    Thank you

IF you do the blade cleaning thing, a plated blade will take correct cleaning better due to not having to worry about loosing all the crossgrain on the polished blades. These later Luft 1st daggers by Eickhorn often had polished blades though! So find out which type this one has. A polished blade will not clean up much at all,and loosing all the crossgraining is worse than age spotting to me. Not a bad looking Luft if the price is right. Good luck! Kevin.

I didnt know that first modell luftwaffe daggers had blades with crossgraning only on late alu examples I would presume?

Before taking any action you may wish to contact Tom (swordfish) as he has some experience in blade restoration.

It's a shame it was a mess under the hood, b/c she had everything else going for it. Too bad! Smart pass IMO
