    Edged weapon help

Could someone help me identify a couple of items.

I got 2 sword/bayonets -don't know which. They are each 2 ft. long. Sharp on one side, jagged saw-like on the other. I think they are bayonets because they have a sort of slot-like thing in the handles.

    Each bayonet has different markings.

One says "Elsener Schwyx", serial # 623037

The other says "WaffenFabrik Neuhausen", serial# 162630.

I'm curious if they are German or if they are even from WW2. Anything at all.

My sister got them from someone she knows and he didnt know for sure what they were either, so I'm starting off knowing nothing.

    Thanks.

Sorry for poor description, I'm new at this.

    Hello Frank,

Sounds like you´ve got 2 Swiss Schmidt-Rubin model 1914 Engeneers bayonets, that is if they have steel scabbards.
Leather scabbards would make them to be more early 1887 Vetterli Engeneers bayonets.

Do they look like the longest one in the picture?

Hope this was of some help,

    All the best, Eric

      Hi Erik,

Wow! My 2 are exactly like the one on the left, the longest. They both have black metal scabbards, although they don't have the square end attachment, I suppose to attach them to a belt or something.

What can you tell me about them? I take it they are WW1 era? Used by who?

      Thankyou very much.

      Frank

        Hi Frank,

These bayonets were used in Switzerland from around 1914.

I found this site about schmidt-rubin rifles, I havn´t read it all but there sure is a lot info to find!

        http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/

All 3 of my bayonets are made bij Waffenfabrik Neuhausen.
