    Horster heer -

Am i right in thinking the mark and guard look a little off?

The mm looks to have part of the blade missing and there are small decorations separating 'solingen' and 'ef horster' that i don't see in wittmann's army book.

The eagle's wings look not quite attached to me or somehow awkward. I'll feel happier to find in the company's logo appears underneath guard

    anyway, expert insight appreciated

The picture is not the most helpful, but I would agree something looks off about that - the metal used looks wrong IMO.

Looks a little different in the second picture... I would disregard my statement above.

does this look like an early silver-plate version or late one with 'silvering' over zinc? I think the mm closer to the guard means 'later' right? thanks again guys.

I believe the mark is a later Horster so if all originally together my guess would be silvered zinc. As an aside, you could probably do OK with the sword knot. What color is in the dot?

thanx a lot billy. haven't seen it yet; local guy had an ad.
he's back after mem day; if he still has it and I can get if for fair money will 'show-n-tell.' it'll be good if the plating doesn't have 'the dreaded bubblies' - looks ok from the pix..

I think it looks OK too but get some better pics just to be sure. You can't be too careful with peoples' assessments of what constitutes damage. Had a bad experience with that crap myself 2 months ago.

It's a nice Horster with generic fittings. The owner sent me high resolution pics. Everything is correct for a late period piece.
