    Maybe yes, maybe no. While looking at the plating/brass issue again, I saw one other thing. The top crossguard has some casting voids/irregularities. Third Reich era workmanship? I think not. And would be happy to send an enhancement to whomever would like to post it for everyone to see and judge for themselves. FP

        Posting on behalf of FP.

        To me it looks more like a bad casting on both sides than an aged crack or cracks. With actual voids/empty spaces in the metal. Also note how the wood grip seems to be fairly well fitted to the crossguard, including the different angles at the ends. One of which appearing to be more vertical than the other. I’ve seen this kind of workmanship with reproductions, but with an original? The images also show what could be a rusted or aged brass (?) pommel button. And besides what might be aged brass (?) on the right, what could be a fresher exposed surface (or possibly an area of varnish ?) above/to the right of the two arrows on the left.
