    HJ knife (pointers please)

I might have an oportunity in the next few days to buy a HJ knife from a private seller who happens to be a long time collector. This will be my first HJ knife, so needless to say I am not well skilled on these items. My first thoughts are that all HJ knives should be RZM marked, is this correct? Can anyone provide a few key things to look for in regards to originality when identifying a HJ knife? Also, I've checked around on the internet dealers and see that prices are generally between $200 and $400. Does that sound about right on retail price? All info is appreciated. Thanks.

Early HJ knives are maker marked, mid period are Maker marked and RZM marked and are called transitional both these types will have the blade motto. Later ones are just RZM marked and will not exhibit any motto on the blade. I always prefer it if the HJ diamond moves a little. The scabbard should be magnetic and its preferable if there is cotton still on the scabbard liner. Ones made of alloy without a rivet in the front are fake. There are some that are always fake, I think from memory ones with RZM 7/13 dated 1938 with motto are common well made fakes. There are others on this forum who specialise in HJ knives and will have more comments than me.

He will be doing an HJ video soon! (Just like the SA one he did under the SA section)

            Very helpful IMO.

I didn't know there were videos here. I'll have to check out the SA one and the HJ one when it comes out. Thanks joshlichty.
