damascus army dagger

hi there guys. i came across an army genuine damascus dagger with the tiger makers mark. doing some research i learnt that high quaility fakes were made in the 60's and 70's and with that age a nartural patina would now be present, making it hard to distinguish from the genuine article based on the look of the piece. i ordered thomas wittmann's army dress dagger book; learning that it has a section on reperoduction damascus blades; however i still await delivery of the book. in the meantime what do you guys think of this piece and what would be a reasonable price for it if it where authentic?

Interesting looking blade! I would like to see better photos. It is possible the tang on this blade could be stamped ... maybe even a Dinger? Better photos required but to me this piece shows promise.

Beware of blades with no maker mark nor any tang markings. They are hard to prove as period.

I think that the recognized Damascus blade markings show TMs by Tiger, Fridericus and Eickhorn.

So, this one has a chance of being correct and period.

yes gary here is a picture of the crossguard. i'd like to thank you guys for all your help and input. the next time i see the dagger i'll take more and better photos and post them for you all to see.

I bet the next time we see this piece, it'll have new hardware. Nothing wrong with doing that, as long as it's cataloged.

finally some detailed photos of the dagger and the tang. again i want to thank you guys for all your help; on and off the forum; in trying to authenticate the piece. one piece of info that Damasco gave me, pretty much nailed down that this piece is beyond doubt authentic and who the damascus smith is.

close up of the damascus smith mark for Paul Dinger. notice the brass wedge that was placed between the tang and opening of the cross guard, the outline is still evident around the letter P. all the fittings look original to the dagger and are generic type a which conform to those used by Tiger. is this a feature that has been used before by manufacurers? or is this something that someone rigged up latter on?
