    I'm on my 4th (Army) 'Exploring the Dress daggers' book by Wittman, have the 4 volume set. His SS book is the one I was referring to last night when I saw that the runes button & grip looked weird. Recently ordered more reference material. But I should have picked up on the MM from what I've read,,,, studied,,,,, seen here. Guess I need to go back and "study" the SS book again instead of just reading through it.............. You know, you get excited about finding something you've been looking for & get beer goggles

    Sharp focus photos is great advise too....

        It not unusual to see brown coming through a grip of an SS dagger due to a lot of them were made of fruit wood and were died black.
