It's tough enough getting new collectors into the hobby with the way prices are now days and when you add this sort of thing into the mix it's also no surprise why more and more experienced collectors are leaving TR behind.

    Regards,
    Stu

I don't see any explanation, apology or other anything in regards to the reason this thread was started on here and GDC. Not only are the pictures obvious and not altered, there is also rock solid testimony from all involved. Instead of using his contribution to this hobby, he should maybe trying using something that matters.

Unfortunately, Houston is not alone in the deception perpetrated by high end dealers on the unsuspecting and trusting. There is absolutely no excuse for altering such a nice dagger.

Probably he's just laying low, hoping for it to blow over and be forgotten.

....and then they wonder where have all the young collectors gone?

Unfortunately that is a fact of life which is choking off the growth of new collectors. Last year one showed me a collection of parts (old and new) that was an SS dagger that he thought was a “steal” at (as I recall) $2500.00. I pointed out what was wrong, and he was very fortunate to get his money back as the show was still in progress. He said that was it for him, no daggers, and he was going to stick with collecting guns. FP

MOST dealers I have known will fart with the items a little, make more sellable. but many others have & will go beyond. many "famous" names, some who visit these forums.
some dealers have sold "one of a kind items" , then later you find 3 of the same floating around.
many dealers did not get where they are , with out some hidden b.s.
Not saying all are this way. I've seen dealers buy bad stuff , & pass it back out the door. they weren't going to eat the cost...
In reguards to younger collectors , there is very few have the interest to start with. then they go to a shop / show = see the over priced items. their out. they don't think of all the repros either... who today would make that ?? most of the "collectors" I know today are all mini dealers. they all buy anything military to sell or trade for what they might want.
fewer & fewer real collectors out there today. I hate being in compaction with the local idiots ; rarely find anything on my own = for me.
then you have issues like this "event". surprised any one wants to stay a collector. jeff

For some of us collectors, maybe. For the dealers, it's strictly business. But never knowing if what you've got is really what you paid for (or overpaid) is getting to be not so much fun. It's almost getting to be time to pick up your chips and move to another table... (and not at a gun show).

P.S. - Just found out an HJ achievement badge I BOUGHT ON THE ESTAND is a total repro. (But a very good one.) If you can't even trust fellow collectors on the e-stand, then where are we...

Now you know where the younger, up and comming Dealers did their apprentiship , Like father like son. The practice(s) revealed on this thread MUST, and will, be punished. The criminals in our hobby must be delt with. Sooner or later, a reciept is issued for ever transaction in life, if they did`nt know that by now they soon will. @Garry, (private joke) we shoulda bought that bat-rug a few years back, and humped it up then sold it off to the vatican as the holy shroud.

I doubt anything will or could ever be done regarding this incident. Hopefully this thread will inform people about Houston Coates workings though...
