2nd model Luftwaffe Dagger - complete - personalized - maker help needed!

    Hi folks,

today I received another piece for my collection: a 2nd model LW dagger.

I found that it was personalized ( "... Just ... 289?3 ...: ) and that it has a very nice crossguard. The scabbard is in pretty nice shape - so is the blade. Of course, not perfect as it has some marks ...

The portepee is quite worn and the handle shows also some wear, too.

Unfortunately I can't figure out the maker - can someone help me with this?

Of course, any further comments and opinions are very welcome!

    Thanks for your help,

    Kevin

      Thanks Nolan!

Can you let me know which details you can see that from?

      Thanks,

Scabbard bands and the Crossguard are most certainly Alcoso, I would think also the pommel though I haven't crossed referenced yet.

Tom Wittmans Luft book offers excellent reference for details.

It's quite unusual to see an unmarked blade with Alcoso fittings, even when parts became in short supply Alcoso always marked their blades even when they were matched up with fittings from other makers, I have a very minty Alcoso blade with all WKC fittings, it's an anomoly you have to live with if you like 2nd Lufts.

I certainly wouldn't worry about yours though, looks like a very nice piece.

I agree with Nolan, late-mid period Alcoso made dagger all the way. Rounder shaped scabbard with small flat head screws, thinner twisted wire(read, late/mid to late) Solid trolon grip so not real late when Alcoso used wood base or plaster filled grips,fittings(crossguard/pommel) Alcoso made. I like these Lufts! Kevin.

Thanks - and yes, I also like the Luft daggers!

... thanks again for all this info - and the reference book recommendation!

I begin to love it more and more ...

Could you get some more information out of the additional stiching on the hanger? I barely could read something than the posted numbers and the name - I guess ....

            Thanks,

            Kev

              Hi Kevin,

I also have a 2nd Luftwaffe Dagger with the exact same cross guard and the blade has an Alcoso mm. I personally like this cross guard because the eagle appears more life like...

yes, that is true - I received my army dagger today and the cross guard on the alcoso LW is much nicer!

pictures will be up on the weekend then of my new addition to the collection ...

                Have a good one ...
