I have never seen an SMF Luft2 without a waffen ampt stamp.... and they usually have some gilting on the pommel.

Not a real SMF blade IMO.

            More opinions?
Well IMO the dagger looks fake from the crude porous scabbard bands to the unsoldered rings, the hilt, and as Valhalla had mentioned -a fake blade. Makers logo gives it away from a distance. Nice catch there JohnnyZ on the Waffen-ampt.

But there maybe a good chance that the portapee is authentic. Hope that helps.

THAT is a strange dagger. I don't like it either, but the funny thing is the bird, pommel and even the leaves on the goofy scabbard bands are SMF type! (at least in there style) ALL there but all weird looking. Grip wire is only total departure from SMF norm(springy type wire). Like you guys said the MM is too dark and unwaffen ampt.. never seen a fake like this, like to hold in hand. Kevin.

As for the pommel swaz and it's lack of gilt, SMF usually holds the gilt better than most makers, but I've seen a lot of them with none.
What struck me as odd was how dark the gip was. I can usually spot an SMF from a distance due to the more yellower orange than this one, which is pretty orange.
I thought I would make a case with the crossguard, but I have 2 SMF's which are both good ones IMO, and they have different crossguards (one resembling this one but not spot on).
I also have never seen this maker without a Luftamt either.
Now for the maker mark on the blade. It stinks.
There is a spot which I point to where there is a clear spot, like the king's ear. It shouldn't be there. Also, the vertical line that make up his robe (there should be 8 fine lines) should not touch the horizontal base of the robe. They not only should they not touch, but they shouldn't terminate evenly either.
And the "SMF" letters are not quite right either. Overall, the whole maker mark is too dark and "thick" in detail.

                Regards,
                Frank

I would go with care to say that this dagger is false, because first, the design leaves the ring of the sheath is of the SMF type.

On the other hand, has elements that just do not convince me, but not definitive.

It would be interesting to see a picture upper crossguard to see if the type of SMF.

If it is false, I never saw a dagger luftwaffwe second model as well reproduced.

                      I wonder why? ...

I don't like the blade, looks fake. The SMF's have usually springy aluminium wire on their grips, bad overall impression ... and guys, please, WAFFENAMT (Waffen=weapon, Amt=department). "Waffenamt stamped" is OK, but there is no such thing like "waffen ampt" (what is ampt by the way???)

All in all, a great specimin for discussion. I personally think that this is a post war dagger that came really close in many aspects except for the blade and in particular, the maker mark. I've never seen one like it and think that it is not only post war but a very recent attempt. Much like the fakery that we're seeing in the Third Reich badge world. This is one I would like to inspect in hand and have a look at this dagger in pieces to see the tang and inspect the hilt.
