How to disassemble a Police NCO sword?

Hello collectors,

Some years ago I acquired a Police NCO sword. It was missing it's grip-eagle. Now I've finally found an eagle, but to fix it on the grip correctly, I have to take the grip apart. How do I do this correctly without damaging the sword? Or maybe somone has an other good advise as to fix the eagle correctly to the grip.

First you have to remove the hilt from the blade. To accomplish that you have to remove the tang nut or pommel nut. That is the flat oval shaped device that on the very top of the hilt.

Once you have the hilt off, the handle comes off easy. Now you can install the police eagle.

Thank you for your input, but has the nut been screwed on, or can I pull it off? I would like to know because I do not want to damage the sword.

The pommel is actually a tang nut that is screwed on to the top of the tang.
