    SA dagger Honor or garbage.

A friend of mine sent me some pictures of this SA dagger.

This is not my field of expertise so i would love to hear your opinion.

I only got these two pictures.

    Thanks in advance.

    /Carl

    Carl,

I'm far from an expert on such daggers but one always has to be careful when buying things like this. One thing that jumps out at me is the hilt which is both gau marked & nickel silver which leads me to believe the crossguards & grip were from an earlier vintage dagger than the blade date of 1939 is. The scabbard fittings are plated which is more what I'd expect to see on a later RZM piece.

I'd be interested to see what the crossguard to scabbard fit is & what the blade tang looks like. Overall though, I don't have a good feeling about this one.

      Hi Billy,

I can always ask for more photos.
For me the grip and scabbard looks good but i dont know about the blade.
Might be that they used a good SA and added a bad damascus blade?

      Thanks for your opinion.

      /Carl

I doubt it is an originsl fsctory blade..It is hard to tell but it looks like it does not fit the crossguard .It looks like a gap at the end of the blade.Plus being marked with a RZM mark,I doubt it big time.

You can ask for a head-on photo of the makers mark/date.
Besides what Billy and Doc. pointed out, it seems the '39' in 1939 looks larger.

I don't have much confidence in this example.

To me it looks like early Eickhorn handle/crossguards matched with dodgy damascus blade.
No problem however with "39" being bigger. I have Henckels transitional dated 1938 and "38" is bigger.

              Scary unless it's free.

Any brave soul that can say good or bad for the blade?

                      Thanks,

                      /Carl

I have a feeling it's bad. No 100% proof (I'm just not familiar yet with this pattern being faked), just my collector instinct.
If damascus blades are available (made in India or Pakistan) and etchings are being faked, then this very blade can be a modern product. I would be more positive, of course, if the blade would be matched with correct transitional Henckels parts, but if the blade is a part of a parts dagger, well, the red light starts to blink.

Just a fact: damascus blade were never RZM marked. The other parts of the dagger are OK

                            That kinda makes sense.

                            Thanks for the help.
