Teno em hewer out of the local wood-work

Hello folks. Here's the cream of the proverbial crop from a small group of very nice WWII German edged weapons brought in by a local gent this past weekend. They'd been in his family since the war. This little jewel is utterly UN-touched, UN-cleaned, etc..Nickel plating rates over 90 percent, un-sharpened blade is very nice w/ a few scattered moisture pits near the tip on the obverse / reverse, but the grip plates, hilt hardware, pommel, etc, are wonderful, as is the original scabbard and best of all, original leather hanger w/ INTACT grip strap w/ button. The clip is marked by Assmann. If you can appreciate woodwork untouched items like I do, I hope you'll enjoy perusing the photos. Thanks!

    Congrats!

    Congrats! You did Super !

Are the numbers of the scabbard & blade matching?
Are the numbers on the Blade etched in, or peened in?

Thanks for your comments! The numbers on the scabbard match the ricasso, and the numbers under the eagle are etched rather than stamped, hence I believe this denotes a later period piece, or? Thx again for your reply!

        TN Hewer Number

        Thanks!

Yes, it appears that TeNo Hewer Numbers below about 2,000 - 2,500 [approx.], were
Stamped on the Blade. Then, afterwards the Etched numbers are found.

The highest TeNo Hewer Number which I know of is 10,126. I don't know how to differentiate between the mid period Hewers vs. late period Hewers.

I'm trying to keep a database & hopefully learn from it.
        What Number is your Hewer?

As time permits, can you show a photo of the leather Hanger?

Hi again Dave. Yes, I'll be happy to upload a few more pix. I don't have it in front of me at present, but I believe it's in the 9xxx range. Thx, Milto

Dave, I've also been keeping a database of Teno numbers for years, the highest stamped number I've seen is 1394, the first etched number I've seen starts at 1632, and the highest number being 10868. Wish we could put some research to these but sadly not...

              TeNo #'s Database

Hi Red, RE: TeNo #'s Database

I have followed your educational posting of #'s [stamped vs etched], over on GMIS,
I belive, with DEN? Lots of Great information there.

Thanks for your update with the 'correct' number range - I'd forgotten.
It's all fascinating in trying to make some sense / rationality out of the numbers,
when no one left us an instruction manual! ...Dave L / dblmed

It's sometimes strange what motivates people to learn more about these daggers. I started a number database originally because of the speculation that etched numbered Teno Leaders were in fact Attwood copies. The actual numbering patterns dismissed this theory in my mind. Still wish I knew how to ID an Attwood Teno Leader though, but it's not in the numbering...

                        Thanks !

Milton, Thanks for the Additional Photos...

You have a very nice full TeNo Hewer 'rig' in great condition. A very special find, which
I hope that you'll keep it in your collection.

The leather Hanger is the so called 'earlier' type, having no "Triangle Stitching" on
the upper part. I'm happy with either type of the Hewer Hanger, although some
collectors prefer only the NON-"Triangle Stitching" model. To each his / her own.

                        What is the Hewer Number?
I'd like to add it to the study Database... Best, Dave L / dblmed
