    E. Bonsmann early sa

Anyone know of the e.bonsmann 'trident logo' early sa?

They seem very very rare. Estimated value for one in decent shape?

    Thanks a lot!

It's a ten on the the McSarr list making it in the top rarity rating. I would imagine this would command a premium amongst maker collectors but I would say that condition will decide price for most collectors. As for value, decent SAs seem to be in the $600-$800 range as opposed to the $1000-$1500 madness of a few years ago.

I don't know about "trident" but mine has a three anchor logo. Kind of rare, the only one I've ever seen is the one in my collection.

'kind of rare'? over at germ daggs the only ref is to the gau mark on one, and a single pic by mod dave hohaus.

someone should start having their $ as this one's going to be for sale. offers anyone?

I think the one referenced at GDC in the gruppe mark survey was mine. So yeah, kinda rare although the last Dr. Mike List had it slightly demoted.

thanks again for all views and PMs.

but I'm left wondering, gentlemen, what causes a 'rarity demotion' of a dagg from 10 to 9? logically speaking, as just 1000 were made (says ralf siegert) only discovering a horde of e. bonsmann daggs somewhere could make them less rare.

              did that happen??

                David,

I believe the answer is both scales, (Mike Mac's McSARR & Ralf's book) are based on personal observations in addition to the proposed production of approximately 1000 daggers in total (as Fisher's lists anyway). Speaking solely for Mike's scale, he may have made the adjustment over time after observing more of this particular maker. I don't believe there's any exact science to it. Whether it's a 9 or a 10, still a pretty rare item & price would be very much the same IMHO. The "X" factor remains the condition of the mentioned dagger.

                  cheers, billy g. makes sense.

and of course there's no exact science TO 'exact science' - that's what makes many accidental discoveries the more wondrous and desirable. (unless from my POV it's 10 crates of e. bonsmanns found in a solingen sub-basement!)

IMO it doesn´t matter if it´s a 9 or a 10 ... this maker is a hard one to find ... I haven´t had the pleasure yet to get a Bonsmann in my hands ... nice on RevYJ

I was researching the maker E. Bonsmann on Google, and found this thread.

I found/bought one today in fairly decent shape. sorry for the poor photo.

The estimate of 1000 made has no basis in reality. We simply do not know how many daggers of each maker were produced. Mike McAlvanah
