EARLY SA DAGGER: Ernest Pack & Söhne (Original?)

    Hi,

I would like your oppinion on this early SA dagger.

The Maker mark (Ernest Pack & Söhne) seems oK, although the partial wear.

Is there anything wrong that i couldn't see? Is it original or not?

    Regards

    Fábio

Yes - original factory ground. You may want to post the whole blade so members can see the quality of the factory ground job.

I'm not sure if it's a ground Rohm, may be MM was only damaged by some scabbard scratches on blade. I think better rear blade pictures are needed.

I have seen this debate here several times about these E.P.& Sohn daggers. Some say the MM is to high to be a ground Rohm others say it is not . Here is a pick of an NSKK dagger I just acquired .

vitts, True Epack Rhom's have been under debate for awhile now. But after several years and numerous examples it seems that epack used different logos (slightly) and in different locations during the short Rohm 'run'.
But so did Eickhorn and several other makers. E-packs had more changes then the others IMO.

Here is one logo location that is also far from the crossguard.

There is something with the scabbard I don't like. I believe it may not be a e-pack. The screws for the upper fitting seem to be a bit too high placed. The upper and lower scabbard fittings don't look like early epack too me. But that's JMO. Perhaps you can get another opinion here.

Now here is an early epack with the logo they placed way down near the crossguard to make room for the presentation engraving.

Anyone else thinks that the scabbard isn't correct?
Can you post some picturesof yours to compare?

The dagger looks correct to me. I agree about different placement of logos and Röhm's dedication on E.P.& S. daggers.
See typical Pack upper scabbard fitting below. They used also "regular" fittings, but the distance between the throat and screws is always bit bigger than on other makers.

It's not the type of scabbard construction usually seen on Packs, however I've seen several Packs with "regular" scabbards as well, so not "textbook" scabbard doesn't have to be automatically a red flag.

Here are some pictures of the blade.
I'm not a good photographer and my camera is not professional.
I hope you could analyse those picures and see if there is any sign that could elucidade if its a Ground Rohm or not.

                          Regards
