The saber itself is fine. It's an Alcoso Army enlisted mens saber.

The etch on the other hand, I don't know how I feel about it. At the time some of the phony 98 bayo etches were being done in the UK, some saber blades were also done. Perhaps some one like Bill, or another collector with an emphasis on etches can chime in on the etch.

            Missing its scabbard I presume?

I'm also positive about the saber itself. Etching? Hmm, I tend to say it's good. However, no proof for that but I like the lettering style, looks period to me.
The phony 98 bayo etches "Made in UK" (I mean their "designs") were made with use of easy available at that time sets of letters (that type of lettering is favourite also amongst the fakers of today). Besides, everything couldn't be below the "Leibstandarte" level Makers of phony 98's wouldn't "ruin" the blade with some "poor" cavalry regiment . If somehow the etching is fake, it's probably linked with fake dress bayonets makers.
Let's hear some EM etched sabers expert opinion.

The etch looks OK for an Alcoso of this type from what I can see. There should be a cavalry scene on the other side.

With some light cleaning it is a nice original etch.. (Easy to see this one)
