Re: Diplomat sword
World War II Nazi Diplomatic Sword with scabbard and knot made by Alcosa of Solingen. The sword is accompanied by documentation from the Canadian Military Studies Museum that states it was captured from the Nazi governor of occupied Holland, Dr. Artur Syess-Inquart, by Private E. Dubreuil (Service No. K50031) of A Company, 1st Battalion, Canadian Scottish Regiment. After his capture by the Canadian Army in 1945, Syess was tried and convicted at Nuremberg for his role in the deportation and murder of over 117,000 Jewish citizens of Holland. Syess was executed on October 16, 1946. Ownership of the Nazi Diplomatic Sword was restricted to members of the National Socialist Diplomatic Corps. The sword has a silver-plated D-guard with stylized left facing eagle head pommel. The knuckle bow extends from the eagle's beak. The grip has two pearl panels and a ferrule with four horizontal grooves. The counter-guard is a large National Socialist eagle and swastika. The sword has a narrow, 31-inch, spear-point blade with a single stopped fuller. The blade is nickel plated and decorated with acid etched panels with floral designs and the National Socialist Eagle and Swastika insignia on the obverse. The Acosta trademark is etched on reverse ricasso. The sword is complete with the original black leather scabbard with silver-plated throat and tip. The sword retains the original gold bullion Diplomatic Corps sword knot (portepee). This is a rare sword with excellent provenance.
